To all People to whom these presents shall come I John Baldwin of Edgecombe County in the province of No. Carolina planter in the name of our Lord God everlasting send greetings Know ye that I the said John Baldwin for the & in consideration of the sum of two pounds current money of Virginia to me in hand paid by Peter Richardson planter of the Province & County af’d the receipt whereof I do acknowledge and myself to be therewith fully satisfied & (unreadable) I have agreed bargained sold & by thee presents do grant bargain & sell unto the said Richard his heirs & assigns forever a plantation & tract of land lying & being in the province af’d on Quankey swamp bing the least half of a tract of land granted from our Lords Prop’r for four hundred & forty four acres Beginning at the mouth of a branch between me & John Stodghill & moving up that branch to a marked W) on the fork of the branch & along a line of marked trees to a pine on the back line & along that line to a blackjack a corner tree & along a line of marked trees to another branch running the said swamp up the swamp to the first station Containing 222 acres to the use & behoof of (missing sentence - photograph of microfilm chopped top of page) land unto the said Richardson his heirs & assigns forever Together with all woods & underwoods rights privileges & ammenties to the same belonging or in anywise appertaining To have & to hold the said plantation and all of the land unto the said Richardson his heirs & assigns forever And I the said John Baldwin fore myself my heirs Exor’s & Admr’s do further promise & covenant agree to & with the said Richardson and his heirs and by these presents then the said Richardson his heirs & shall & may peaceably quietly have hold occupy posses & enjoy the said plantation & tract of land & all (unreadable) the rights privileges & amenities forever without let trouble or molestation of or from me the said Baldwin or of or from any other person or person whatsoever claiming by or under me or them or any other of them I the said Baldwin do for myself my heirs Exors Admr’s the said plantation & tract of land warrant that the said land free & clear from all former or other sales gifts grants mortgages unto & all other incumberances whatsoever I will the same defend against all person whomsoever claiming any rights title interest thereunto or any part thereof and will at all or any time or times hereafter do any such further or other lawful act or acts thing or things for confirming or suremaking he said plantation & tract of land unto the said Richardson his heirs or assigns as shall be thought necessary & desirable by him the said Richardson or his attorney learned in the law In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the day & year above written 1741 (note – date not written above)
