Transcription

THIS INDENTURE made this Ninth Day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Seven BETWEEN James Reaves (sic Reeves) of Granville County in the provance (sic) of North Carolina planter of the one part and John Harris of the County of Rowan & provance (sic) aforesd. planter of the other WITNESSETH that the said James Reaves (sic Reeves) for and in consideration of the sum One hundred pounds prov. money to Him in hand paid before the Sealing and Delivery of these presents the Receipt hereof the said James Reaves (sic Reeves) doth hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained & Sold Aliened Enfeofed Released & confirm’d & by these presents doth grant Bargain & Sell Alien Enfeoff Release & Confirm unto the said James Reaves (sic Reeves) his Heirs & Assigns forever one certain Tract or parcel of Land Situate Lying & being in the County of Granville aforesaid & on both Sides of Fishing Creek containing by Estimation Two Hundred Acres be the same more or less and bounded as followeth to wit, Beginning at a Hicory the South side of Fishing Creek then running North over the Creek up a branch to a W. Oak corner Tree then S West to a Red Oak a corner Tree then running South to a Hickory a Corner Tree then East to the Beginning and also the Reversion & reversions Remainder & Remainders Rents & Services thereof & also all the Estate Right Title Interest property claim and Demand whatsoever of Him the said James Reaves (sic Reeves) of in & to the said Land & premises & of in to every part & parcel thereof ~

TO HAVE & TO HOLD the said Tract or percell (sic) of Land & premises with the appurtenances unto the said John Harris his heirs & Assigns forever & the said James Reaves (sic Reeves) for himself & his heirs & Assigns for ever and the said James Reaves (sic Reeves) for himself & his heirs doth Covenant and agree to and with the said John Harris that He the said James Reaves (sic Reeves) the said seat Tract or parcel of Land & premises & the appurtenances unto the said John Harris his heirs and Assigns forever will warrant & forever Defend by these presents IN WITNESS whereof the said James Reaves (sic Reeves) have hereunto set his hand & affixed his Seal the Day & year first above Written

Commentary

This deed to John Harris is one of several executed by James Reeves in the early 1760s in which James was apparently selling his property in Granville County prior to his removal to the area of Rowan County which within a few years became Guilford.
