I James Echols of Clark County Georgia Believing that I shall live but a little while & perhaps shall not have an opportunity of making a will according to form do make this my last will and Testament in manner following – As my Son Milner Echols & his wife has supported me in old age I give chiefly what I have to them to my six other children I give twenty cents each (viz) Leah North, Polly Reeves, Robert E. Echols, Absalom Echols, Obediah Echols & Betsy Tagg.

I give unto my son Milner my Negro girl Phillis & her boy Williss. I also give him an accounpt(?) against his Brother Obediah Echols Some (sum?) upwards of One hundred Dollars it may be found in my pocket book which I wish Ob’h to pay interest on, as he promised me the money & failed to pay it. Then promised his note buy neglected to give it.

I also give to said Miner all the debt that his Son Sam’l D. Echols owes me his notes Shews the amounts Credits on a separate piece (it will be found with the notes) all but Ten Dollars on the back of a forty Dollar note the notes being small slips of paper - for the fur hundred Dollar note 12½ pr ct. I also give Milner the money that Robert M. Echols owes me that is one note of One hundred and twenty Dollars due the first of Next July & Fifty Dollars I lent Robt the first of January last which have no note for.

I give to my grand son Obediah Echols son of Milner my Bed and furniture also my Saddle & Bridle.

Wrote with my own hand and assigned this ninth day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and twenty three in presence of

Personal appeared in open Court Bezabel Langford a subscribing witness to the within will and saith on oath that he saw Jane Echols sign the within instrument as his last will and Testament and Robert L. Harris being also Sworn saith that he heard the said James Echols acknowledge the same to be his last will and Testament and they both say on oath he was of sound and disposing mind and memory at the time of his so doing.
