Transcription

I William Rives of Iredell County and State of North Carolina being in a low state of health but of sound mind and memory Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament exclusive of all others, That is to say, First of all I desire to commit the Keeping of my Soul and body to the protection and preservation of that good and gracious God in whose hands are the issues of life and death and my temporal property I dispose of as follows, First then I give and bequeathe to my four eldest children Mrs. Beca Fels, wife of Cade Fels, Edmund Rives, Nathan Rives and Eli Rives Ten Dollars each to be delivered to them at decease of my beloved wife Rebecca Rives. Item I give and bequeathe unto my Son Eli Rives my daughter Patience Rives and my grandson Ira Rives my Land and plantation whereon I now live but my will and desire is that my beloved wife Rebecca Rives hold full and quiet possession of the land and plantation during her natural life and at her decease to be sold and equally divided betwixt the three above mentioned children Viz, Levi Rives, Patience Rives and Ira Rives. Item, I give and bequeathe to my grand daughter Rebecca Rives The daughter of Hansel Rives, Decd One feather bed and furniture One Cow and Calf and the rest of my property now in the possession of her mother to be delivered to her when she comes to the age of Twenty years all the rest and residue to my Estate I give and bequeathe to my beloved wife Rebecca Rives during her natural life and at her decease to be equally divided between my four children the lawful offspring of my body Viz. Nancy Elliott, Hannah McConnell, Patience Rives and Levi Rives and my three Grandchildren to Wit William Wilkinson, David Wilkinson and Henry Wilkinson the lawful heirs of my daughter, Lucy Wilkinson, Decd. For them to draw One fifth of whatever There is and that fifth to be equally divided between them three, The negroes to be put into Lots and drawn for by the abovementioned children making each ones part equal to be theirs and their heirs after them for ever And further by virtue of this my Last Will and Testament I appoint my Son Levi Rives and John Elliot joint Executors of this my Last Will and Testament In witness of what is above written I do hereunto set my hand and Seal this 28th Day of April 1827.

North Carolina  §   Be it known to all whom it may concern that I
Iredell County   §   Wm. Rives of the County and State aforesaid being spared to the present day and thanks be to God am yet of Sound mind and memory have concluded to make the fullowing amendment to my Las Will and Testament dated the 28th April 1827. To wit, My Negro boy named Turner born since abovementioned will was made it is my will and desire that he remains with my beloved wife her life or until my grandson Ira Rives arrives at the age of twenty One years then it is my will that the said Negro be delivered to the Said Ira Rives as his right and property and him and his heirs to hold for ever, It is further my will and desire that is the said Ira Rives does at any age die without heirs that the said Negro boy Turner be the property of my Son Levi Rives my daughter Patience Rives and my granddaughter Rebecca Rives and their heirs for ever.
