The Grand Jurors Sworn chosen & Selected for the County of Walton To wit Robt M. Echols John H. Banks Grisham Harrin Noah Nelson Christopher McRae Archibald Tanner David Lanier Andrew Boyd David Malcom Edmond Adcock John Trammell Paul T. Willis James Thompson Timothy C. Wood Robt .G. Kilgore Frederick Reeves Henry Terrell James Phillips Jesse H. Arnold James Lindley Samuel Allen Ralph Briscoe and Frederick Raines. In the name & behalf of the Citizens of Georgia on their Oaths do present William L. Walker of said County the offense of Murder. For that the said William L. Walker not having the fear of God before his Eyes but being moved & Seduced by the allegation of the Devil on the thirteenth day of July in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred & thirty with force & armed in the County aforesaid in (illegible) Wonder a Negro man Slave the property of the said William L. Walker in the presence of God & Said State there & then being feloniously willfully and of the malice aforethought did make an assault & that the said William L. Walker with certain sticks rods & hickory switches which he the said William L. Walker in both his hands there & then had & held the said Negro man Wonder in & upon the back sides belly arms & thighs of the said Negro man Wonder there & then feloniously willfully & of malice aforethought did strike & beat (illegible) to the said Negro man Wonder there & then with the sticks rods & hickory switches on & upon the back sides belly arms & thighs of the said Negro named Wonder in manner aforesaid Several mortal bruises on (illegible) the back Sides belly arms & thighs of him the Negro man Wonder of Which said several mortal bruises the said Negro man Wonder on the day & year aforesaid in the County aforesaid died and so the Jurors aforesaid on the oaths aforesaid do say that the said William L. Walker in manner & form aforesaid feloniously willfully & of his malice aforethought the said Negro man Wonder did Kill & Murder contrary to the Laws of said State hat the good order peace and dignity thereof. In the name & behalf of the Citizens of (illegible) on their Oaths do present William (illegible) & John Treadway of said County for the offence of (illegible) For that the said William & John on the Eighteenth day of August Eighteen hundred and thirty with force & armed in the town of Monroe a (illegible) plate in said County did fight together to the Terror of the Citizens & (illegible) of the public tranquility contrary to the laws of said State to good order peace & dignity.

We the Grand Jury drawn and Sworn for the County having had various subjects under consideration having selected the following as those most important for our presentment.

1st We present as a grievance the State of our public Roads generally and recommend the Inferior Court to take such means as will compel commissioners and overseers to discharge their duty.

2nd We further present as a grievance the almost entire neglect of Captains to appoint Patrols in their respective districts.

3rd Among the most fruitful Sources of disorder riot & immorality are grog shops Tippling houses and places of like Character which are to be found in various parts of our County. The Corrupting and (illegible) influence of such places is not confined to young and (illegible) Whites but Extends Itself to our Slaves and more Especially do we look upon it as one of public grievances in the indulgence of it granted the Slaves on Sabbath days in the town of Monroe and we would recommend that the proper authorities to use their utmost (illegible) to put a check to such immoral & disgraceful Conduct. Our duty would be unsatisfied did we not hold up such places to view as dangerous to private morals and public order.

We further present as a grievance Gilbert Sweat? for betting with a Negro Slave named Bob the property of John Peer and (illegible) the money of the Negro which he had received for his masters use We regret that such ends does exist and we recommend our Senator & Representatives to use all possible means in their power to (illegible) the evil.

The Office of the Clerk of the Inferior Court exhibited a long list of defaulters in relation to estrays commencing in this year 1830 up to the present time. By the law of 1825 the duty of all person who have money in their hands belonging to the County to pay the same over to the County (illegible) on or before the 15th December in each year in all Cases (illegible) when their may be neglect of this duty by any individual whatever It is the Sense of this body that the proper authority shall inquire into such neglect & force a prompt compliance of the law.

We also recommend to the Citizens of this County the importance of a (illegible) of the members in our State Legislators

In closing our presentment we recommend to peace officers to take all possible diligence in Suppressing riots and (illegible) of the peace Generally the (illegible) with his Honor judge Saffold we desire that he receive our (illegible) thanks for the impartial able & prompt discharge of his duty during the present Term. To the Solicitor General T. H. Trapp Esqr we (illegible) also respectful approbation for his courtesy to this Body while in session & of his services as an efficient public officer.

We request that so much of our presentments as are of a General notice be published in the Georgia Journal & Federal (illegible)
