George C. Reeves and his children all continued to use the original spelling of the name - "Reves".

George C. Reeves enlisted in Co. K of the CSA 11th Regiment, Mississippi Volunteers on 20 Apr 1861 and served until the close of the war being paroled at Appomattox on 9 Apr 1865. He had been wounded at 2nd Manassas in August of 1862 and spent a lengthy time recovering from his wounds. When he returned on a surgeon's certificate for light duty due to his wounds, he was detailed as the mail carrier and continued serving his regiment throughout the last year of the war.
