Probable Children of Presley Reeves and Anna:

  1. Son, born c. 1800, at home in 1800. Possibly John Reeves, age 30-39 living in Lancaster County listed in the 1830 census who appears to have died before 1840 for there are no further records for him there.
  2. Son, born c. 1802, unmarried in 1820.
  3. Daughter, born c. 1804, at home in 1820 and 1830. This was apparently Margarett Reeves, born c. 1803, unmarried in 1850. She died after 1880 in Shelby Co., AL.

  5. Daughter, born c. 1808, at home in 1820.
  6. Son, born c. 1810, unmarried in 1830. This child was probably Presley Reeves, Jr., head of household in 1840 and 1850 when he is recorded in the next residence to widowed Anna Reeves.
  7. Son, born c. 1812, unmarried in 1830 and at home in 1840. This child was apparently William Reeves, age 32, a head of household in 1850.

  9. Daughter, born c. 1816, unmarried in 1830. This daughter was apparently Milly Reeves, age 34, shown at home with Anna in 1850 and with Margaret in 1860. She died after 1870 in Shelby County, Alabama.

Prestley's name appears as Prestley, Presley, and Presly Reeves. Prestley was how the name was spelled in his first known appearance in legal records, when in 1797 he was named as an administrator of his Moses Reeves's estate in Kershaw Co., SC. Most subsequent references use the spelling Presly.

Presley was enumerated in Kershaw County in 1800. His near neighbors included John Goodwyn, Elizabeth Strowbridge (identified in land records as a neighbor of Moses Reeves and Daniel Payne (aged 26-45), who was security for Presley and Jesse when they administered Moses's estate. Prestley's household included 1 male aged 0-10, 1 male aged 10-16, 1 male aged 16-26, 3 females under age 10, and 1 female aged 16-26. Presley was shown on page 309, and Stephen Reeves (3 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 16-26, 1 female 16-26) appeared on page 307.

Presley has not been located in the 1810 South Carolina census; based upon later census reports for his children (Emily, Fannie, and William) it would appear that Presley was living in Tennessee at some point between 1807 and 1814. He may not have been enumerated in South Carolina, then, because he was living in Tennessee at the time.

Presley had returned to South Carolina by 1820, however, for he was enumerated in Lancaster County in 1820:

Presly Reeves 2 males under 10 2 females under 10
1 male 16-26 3 females 10-16
1 male 45 and over 1 female 45 and over

1830 Lancaster Co., SC, Census:

Presley Reeves 2 males 15-20, 1 male 50-60
1 female 10-15, female 15-20, 2 females 20-30, 1 female 50-60

1840 Lancaster Co., SC, Census:

Presley Reeves 1 male 10-15, 1 male 20-30
1 female 0-5, 1 female 20-30

Anna Reeves 1 male 20-30
1 female 20-30, 1 female 30-40, 1 female 40-50, 1 female 70-80

Emily Reeves 1 male 0-5
1 female 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 30-40

1850 Lancaster Co., SC, Census, HH 875/875: Anna Reaves, 75, $300, SC; Margarett, 47, F, SC; M., 34, F, SC.

1860 South Carolina Mortality Schedule, Lancaster County: Anna Reaves, 85, Widow, SC, died January 1860, Liver Complaint, Occupation Knitting, Sick 14 days. (Note that another almost identical entry for Anna appears nine lines underneath the first, this one indicating that she died of typhoid fever.)
