Reeves Y-DNA Project Updates - October 2004

Hi Everyone,

I have just posted new DNA test results and a family line for ...
Kit 20663 for Robert Forbes Reeves - unmatched at this time
It is unfortunate that interest in our Reeves DNA project has really slacked off in the last couple of months. I know we are coming up on the holidays very soon and everyone will have their mind on family, friends and all the activities going on. But please don't let this extremely important project just fade away. The results we have so far are pretty interesting. Even though we have only seen one close match so far, there are enough similarities in the other results to suggest possible groups may be forming.

Please consider taking part in this important project. Just imagine how valuable these results will be to our descendents and other Reeves researchers in 50 years. Most of us won't be around then, but just think what the results of this project could mean to our great grandchildren.

That brings up something else that many of us don't think about until it is too late. As the holidays approach you may be seeing some family members that you only get to see once or twice a year. Make a journal of your holiday activities. Get a guest book and have all your friends and family sign it when they stop by to visit. Better yet, have someone in the family to make a video of your family activities. These things will become someone's cherished possessions in the years ahead.

I know it is hard to think about, but here is something else to consider. If you have elderly parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles that may not be with us for too many more years, consider doing an interview with them. Take the time to sit down and talk with them. Most importantly, let THEM do the talking. Ask them to tell you about what it was like for them when they were growing up. What was their favorite game to play? Who were their friends and school teachers? What was their favorite subject in school? What was their pet's name? Did they have hobbies when they were younger? Please try to do this while you still have the chance. Don't wait until it is too late. Unfortunately, I did.

If you haven't posted to the REEVES-L mailing list in a while, please take the time now to re-post who you are working on. Let's stir things up a bit, okay?

I'm looking for descendents of Willis Reeves (b. 1780 Granville, NC - d. 1846 Gaston, NC) and his wife Elizabeth Rooker (Daughter of the Reverend John Rooker of York, SC). Willis was the son of William Reeves, Sr (b. 1723 Granville, NC - d. 1821 York, SC) and Elizabeth Lawson. I descend through Willis and Elizabeth's son Jennings Rooker Reeves (b. 1803 NC - d. 1879 TN).

Best Wishes,

Barry Reeves
