Reeves Y-DNA Project Updates - April 2005 [1]

This update embraces two related posts, the first made on 06 April and the second on 09 April 2005

Originally notified to the Reeves-L mailing list by the late Beulah Reeves McCain on 06 April 2005 (accessed May 2019) entitled "DNA Match 25/25" and reformatted for inclusion here.

The most amazing thing has happened, my cousins DNA results has just come through and it is a 25/25 match with Barry and Tommie. This is the most exciting news to come out. We can just about form a group and will begin to work together some. We will post anything we find so all can share, especially those that can't take the test.

It is so important for others to continue to join. The more we have subscribing to the DNA program the better the results will be. I am sure Barry will post the results soon, if he hasn't already done so. I do believe this group is the ones descending from William in Guilford Co., NC different lines but going back to William. It has be proven with a little more time I am sure it will.

We need those who descend from other sons of William to take the test. So far it is pretty amazing to have these three match so perfectly so quickly.

So come on and join the fun of finding your extended family.

All,

The Reeves DNA Project website has been updated with the results of our latest matches. 1

Here is the link again for your convenience.

As you can see, we are beginning to see the formation of groups. I am very excited and pleased to have found matches with Tommie Smith and our List owner Beulah McCain. I am looking forward to working with them. By combining our research efforts, we will hopefully be able to prove or disprove our independent findings. The results of this effort will not only benefit us, but it will help anyone who descends through the same lines.

If you have been undecided about participating in the DNA testing, please give it serious consideration. The more people that participate, the more solid our research conclusions will become. I know the cost of the testing has been prohibitive for some people, but perhaps you can get several members of your family to contribute toward the test for someone in your family line. This project is extremely important, not just for those taking the test now, but for our children, grandchildren and the generations to follow.

I hope Beulah will allow me to use her experience as an example. Since we are doing the Y-Chromosome DNA test, Beulah had to locate a male relative of the Reeves surname to take the test for her family line. After months of searching, she was able to get her cousin Antone Reeves to take the test for her. Sadly, Antone Reeves passed away just weeks after taking the test. If he had not taken the test, we would have never known that our DNA matched. Just something to think about.

My sympathies go out to Beulah and the immediate family of Antone Augustus Reeves for their loss.

Regards,

Barry Reeves
1         Based on the time sequence of results posted by FtDNA, this was almost certainly the Y-25 test of kit 31962 for Antone Augustus Reeves.
Antone was matched with Group 03
