Reeves Y-DNA Project Updates - October 2012 [1]

Originally notified to the Reeves-L mailing list by Barry Reeves on 27 October 2012 (accessed February 2019) and reformatted for inclusion here.

Hi everyone,

The following updates have been made to the Reeves DNA project website.

New Family Lines have been added for:
Kit 208979 for Gary L Reeves
Kit 238290 for David Redden Reeves
    Kit 246986 for Gary Reaves

I have also modified my own family line - Barry L Reeves (18394).

It should be noted that individuals in group #3 and group #8 both claim descent from Robert Ryves (1490 - 1551) of Dorset, England.   Since there are considerable differences in the DNA test results between these two groups (most notably a completely different Haplo type), it cannot be possible for both lines to descend from Robert Ryves of Dorset. I have always questioned my line past my seventh generation due to lack of documented evidence, but since I was unable to find anything to disprove it, I accepted it until new evidence came along.   Recently, I have seen evidence presented by researchers in group #8 that appears to support their descent from Robert Ryves of Dorset. Given this, I am removing the generations in my line after William Reeves, Sr (1723 Granville, NC - 1821 York, SC) until further research can be done.

I know that some members of group #3 may be caught off guard by this or possibly upset about it. All I ask is that you take a look at the evidence yourself and come to your own conclusions. In that regard, I am asking that those who represent group #8 please present your evidence to the list in as much detail as possible so that both sides may participate in the discussion. Once the evidence has been presented, all comments of a constructive nature are welcome. I understand how some family researchers can take it very personally when their family line comes into question, but ultimately we should all be interested in the truth. Even if it takes us in a different direction from where we started out.

Thanks,

Barry Reeves
