On 6 Feb 1790 Joseph Reavis charged with fathering a male child by Mary Gallion, Thomas' daughter, and stands chargeable with maintenance of same. James Reavis and John Williams furnished securities. From the Surry County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions, February 16, 1790 - "Ordered Joseph Reavis, being charged with begitting a bastard mail child on the body of Mary Gallion by her own oath before William Head, Esq., stands chargeable with the maintenance of same."

The name of the wife of Joseph Reavis was listed as "Mary" in his 1804 Surry County Will.

The 1800 census of Salisbury District, Surry County records the household of Joseph Reavis as containing 2 males under 10 years of age, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 26-44, 1 female under 10 years of age, 1 female 26-44 and 3 slaves.

In the 1810 census of Surry County, Mary Revis (sic) is listed with 2 males under 10 years old, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 16-25, 1 female 10-15, 1 female over 45 and 3 slaves. Note that Joseph Reavis was recorded with 3 slaves in the census of 1800.

Mary Reavis' listing in the 1820 census of Surry County has not been located indicating the census enumerator may have spelled the name incorrectly.

The 1830 census lists Mary's household which includes 1 male 15-19, 2 males 20-29, 1 male 30-39, 1 female 60-69 and 7 slaves.

Mary's household is recorded in the 1840 Surry census containing 1 male 30-39, 1 female 60-69 and 8 slaves.
