  7. Pryor Johnson Reeves, b. 1844, GA. He was living with his parents in 1860.
  8. Epsy Caroline Reeves, b. 1847, GA. She was living with her parents in 1860.
  9. Jesse Brassell Reeves, b. 1850, GA, d. 1879, MS, m. Mary Gardner.
  10. Fleming Reeves, b. 1852, GA, d. 1929, MS, m. Emma E. MNU. He was shown as John in 1860.

Allen's parentage has not been established; however, the Y-DNA of one of his descendants matches members of DNA Group 3 who descend from William Reeves who died in Granville County, North Carolina in 1751. His descendants indicate that his full name may have been Allen Howell Reeves. He may have been a relative of Hiram Reeves, who married Susan Harper in Pike Co., GA, in 1838 and was enumerated 1840-1860 in Butts Co., GA.

In 1840, there was a William Reeves, about the same age, living nearby in Butts County, Georgia.

Allen was a farmer in Butts Co., GA, in 1850 with property valued at $500. Allen and Jane later moved to Decatur, Newton Co., MS. They are buried there in Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Cemetery.

Research Notes

The names of several of Allen's children differed in the 1850 and 1860 enumerations. In 1850, the children were shown as Rodolphus, Pryor, Caroline. In 1860, they were shown as Doctor, Johnson, and Epsy. In 1860, Fleming was shown as John, whereas in later census enumerations he appears as Fleming or Flem.

Based on DNA matches to Craig Wilson and research by his grandfather Donald Reeves Norman (1924 - 2020) Espy is more-than-likely his grandmother Callie Eunice Reeves (1848-1919). She is buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi under the name Callie Henry.

Allen was a common name among York Co., SC, Reeves families who moved to central Georgia, but Allen's origins have not been established. There were many other Reeves families in Pike County, where Allen married. At the time that Allen and Jane married, the families of George W. Reeves or Sidney King Reeves had not yet arrived in Pike, nor had the family of Elisha Reeves. Members of the William Reeves family were already established in the southern part of the county and surrounding areas. Given that Allen later appeared in Butts Co., GA, he may have been living in the northern part of Pike County (later Spalding County) that joined Coweta, Fayette, Henry, and Butts Counties or in an adjoining county rather than in the southern portion that joined Upson County.
