Published in the Southern Aegis, St. Clair County, Alabama -
August 7, 1890. Louisa Reeves was born September 12, 1799; was married at the age of 14 years; had 17 children, 8 girls and 9 boys. Came into the county in 1818. Her husband Anderson Reeves died April the 21st 1852.

In the Reeves Grove Cemetery in St. Clair County, Alabama, among the graves of many of the above listed family members is the following curious grave:
Elizabeth McCorgle Reeves August, 1840 aged about 74 years. Could this be the mother of Anderson Reeves? Or it is his wife and the gravestone transcription is incorrect? Eliza Louisa Reeves' death record gives a date of death of 27 Jan 1892 and also states that her year of birth was 1800 so it is doubtful that this could be her grave.

Also of note is the presence in St. Clair County, Alabama of the family of Reuben Sanders with wife Mary (born 1809) who in 1860 named a child Reeves Sanders. Both Reuben and Mary were born in South Carolina and may have a family connection to Anderson Reeves.

From Orphan Court Minutes:
It is ordered by the Judge of the County Court that Anderson Reeves be appointed Guardian for Samantha M Reeves the illegitimate child of Elizabeth Reeves.

Probate records state that he left "as heirs residing in the State of Alabama the following named children to wit Elizabeth Reeves of full age residing in St Clair County Alabama Emily now wife of Madison Leonard both of full age residing in Shelby County Alabama Alvira Reeves of full age residing in said County of St Clair Josephine Reeves of full age residing in said County of St Clair Charles Reeves under twenty one & over fourteen years of age Harvey Reeves under twenty one & over fourteen years of age Joseph Reeves under twenty one and over fourteen years of age Jesse Reeves under twenty one and over fourteen years of age Jane Reeves under fourteen years of age & Clementine Reeves under fourteen years of age all of said children residing in said County of St. Clair."

The will of Anderson Reeves was written 26 Feb 1853 and presented in court for probate on 2 Jun 1853. Anderson's headstone gives a death date of 21 Apr 1853. It appears therefore that Louisa's obituary incorrectly stated that he died in 1852.

Research Notes

Tamantha was listed last in the household of Anderson in 1850. She was living with Elizabeth Reeves McClendon in 1860. There are indications she may have been a daughter of Elizabeth, not of Anderson. She married one of the sons of Elizabeth's husband from his first family, Burwell Jr.
