According to an article in Madison County's The Richmond Climax at the time of his marriage to Ethel Mae Boswell, Ashford B. Reeves had been pastor of the Christian church in Richmond, Kentucky for two years prior to leaving to pastor a church in Georgia.

He was educated at Central University and at the Bible College of Kentucky University, Lexington, graduating in 1898. His wife, Ethel Mae Boswell was a graduate of Lucy Cobb Institute.
