Brewer Reeves had apparently migrated to Kentucky sometime before 1827 for his daughter Phebe is listed as having been born there. He is recorded in the 1830, 1840 and 1850 census in Christian County.

In 1832, "Edmund, a slave, the property of James Jones," was tried for the crime of stabbing Brewer Reeves and sentenced to death. He was to be executed November 16, 1832, but on the 12th of the same month a pardon was granted him by Gov. Breathitt. (Source - Chapter XI, History of Christian County Kentucky by Charles M.
