Narrative

The marriage transcription for Lawson and Caroline Chapman lists his name as D. A. Reeves and the 1850 census of Cherokee County, GA lists him as simply L. A. Reeves with wife Caroline. In the 1860 census of Stewart County, Georgia where he is found living in the next household to Newton Reeves with wife Angeline, he is listed as Lawson Reeves.

Children of Lawson Reeves and Caroline Chapman as listed in the 1860 census:
  1. Daughter (probably Josephine) Reeves, b. 1858
  2. Nancy Reeves, b. 1860
The 1860 census also lists the following children in the home of Lawson Reeves - Buel Reeves, b. 1850; Bock Reeves, b. 1852; Dock Reeves, b. 1854; Virginia "Jennie" Reeves, b. 1856; Isaac Reeves, b. 1856; Duck Reeves, b. 1858. These children were initially believed to be the children of Lawson and Caroline, but they are, in fact, his nieces and nephews, the children of William L. Reeves. The two youngest children in the home do not belong to William L. Reeves and are presumably Lawson's.

By the 1870 census of Dale County, Alabama, some of the children, Dock, Jennie, Josey and James (born 1861) are living in the household of a James Morris. These children were previously assumed to be Lawson's but it has now been established that they were his nieces and nephews. Neither the two youngest children from the 1860 census or their parents can be found in other later census and are presumed to have been deceased by 1870.
