Enlisted May 1861 at Randolph County, Alabama in Co. K of the 13th Alabama Infantry Regiment. Served until the close of the war, Lee's surrender at Appomatox.

Marion's wife Elizabeth's gravestone in the Greenwood Cemetery in Cedartown gives her date of death as 1911. When the 1920 census was taken, he was living in the household of his daughter, Lorena Reeves Perkins in Cobb County, Georgia.
