From Reliques of the Rives:
Dr. George Rives was born December 27, 1795, in Virginia, presumably in Greensville county; and, after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in medicine, moved to Alabama in 1818. He spent his life in Autauga, now Elmore county, Alabama, with the exception of a brief period passed in Virginia soon after his marriage, and died in Elmore county, August 16, 1868. Dr. Rives "practiced medicine all his life without any compensation whatsoever and was one of the most generous and hospitable gentlemen ever in the State. He was always active in public affairs but was never an office seeker. He however served in the Secession Convention of the State. He was a very prominent member of and an active worker in the Protestant Methodist Church for many years."¹
Dr. Rives married May 1, 1823, Eliza Ann Glenn, born August 3, 1806, died July 29, 1892, daughter of Capt. Robert Glenn, who was probably a Virginian, but who was reared in Hancock county, Georgia, where he married Mary Lewis. He settled in what is now Elmore county, Alabama, in 1817, where he was a planter until his death in 1829.

The parents along with Robert Glenn, Dr. George, Martha, William Thomas, and Frank Lewis were buried in the Rives Cemetery, currently in Elmore County, Alabama.

George first bought lad in Augusta County from David Smith in 1832.
