George Shackleford Rives served as Lieutenant and Provost Marshal in Beale's Brigade, C. S. A., and died December 8, 1889, aged seventy years. He married, 1st, June 30, 1846, Susan Jane Lawrence, born August 18, 1827, died June 7, 1856.

George S. Rives, Mary Harton Rives, Annie S. Rives, John C. Rives, and Robert S. Rives are all buried in the Rives Family Cemetery in Hancock County, Georgia. Note this is not the same as the George Rives Family Cemetery in which his father is buried in.
