Narrative

The birth of John Rives is recorded in the Albemarle Parish Register of Sussex and Surry Counties in Virginia. John and Richard Rives were his godfathers and Elizabeth Rives, his godmother.

Children of John Rives and Sarah Barrett:

5. Thomas Rives
6. Henry Rives

The above children are named as minors for whom guardians were appointed in the 1799 estate documents for John Rives' and that of Sarah Barrett Rives.

The 1797 Northampton County will of Thomas Barrett documents that Sarah Rives was his daughter and names her as a legatee. (Will Book Vol. 2 pg 197). Thomas Barrett's will also names his son James Barrett who was an administrator of John Rives estate along with his widow Sarah Rives.
