Children of Thomas Peterson Rives and Martha Ann Nicholson:
  1. Thomas Rives
  2. Anne S. Rives

  4. George Stith Rives, b. 13 Dec 1832
  5. Joseph P. Rives, b. c1837

From Reliques of the Rives:
Dr. Thomas Peterson Rives, born in 1797, was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1819, with the degree of M. D., and died at his residence near Newville, Sussex county, Virginia, August 9, 1840, where he had practiced his profession with eminent success. "The deceased was hospitable and social to a fault. In his bosom lived a lofty and generous spirit ; and in his soul was erected an altar upon which glowed the purest feeling of friendship, hospitality and benevolence. His family has sustained a loss which cannot be repaired, and his county has been deprived of one of its oldest and most skillful physicians."

Dr. Rives married twice: 1st, Martha Dillard, according to a marriage bond dated April 5, 1827, in Sussex county, but is not known to have had issue by her; and, 2nd, September 12, 1831, Martha Ann Nicholson (d. April 9, 1880), of Southampton county, who attended in her youth Brunswick College and Littleton Academy.

Although Reliques states he and Martha Nicholson married 12 Sep, Virginia marriage records state 15 Aug.

George S. and Joseph P. Rives are listed with their mother in 1850, so the other children which Reliques mentions are probably older.
