Narrative

"Daniel M, son of David and Anna Reeves Ware was born near Centerton, Morgan County, Indiana January 7, 1842, departing this life at his home in Brown township, Hancock County, Indiana, August 15, 1916, age 74 years, 7 months and 8 days. His father died August 7, 1844.
After a few years spent in Morgan county, Daniel M. Ware, with his mother and half-sister, Lena, came to Hancock county, and resided here for several years, upon the farm then owned by his grandfather, Mr. Reeves, now owned by Wesley Williams. After reaching manhood he spent some time in Missouri and Illinois.

On January 17, 1873, Mr. Ware was married to Rachel A. Bussell, and to them were born eight children, - four boys and four girls - six of whom survive him, as follows: David, of Greenfield, Ind.; William of Shirley, Ind.; Mrs. William Grunden of Willow Branch, Ind.; Mrs. Perry Webb of Greenfield, Ind.; and Ila and Olive, who still reside at home.

With the exception of a short time spent in the West, Mr. and Mrs. Ware, since their marriage, made their home in Brown township. For twenty-six years they lived at the present home. In January, 1868, Mr. Ware united with the Christian church at Nameless Creek, afterwards moving his membership to Warrington. For more than a year and a half he had been a sufferer and at times the intense pain seemed beyond human endurance, but with Christian fortitude and indomitable will he bore it all, often expressing himself as being ready for the summons which he knew would relieve him and which would soon come.

Daniel Ware was an upright, honest, conscientious man. He sought to do his duty as it was revealed to him in away that met with the approval of all fair-minded men. His sympathies and interests extended far beyond the confines of his own fireside. The unfortunate and distressed ever found him ready to lend a helping hand, and his generosity was limited only by his ability to render service. Always jovial and ready to enter into a joke or wholesome amusement, yet underneath his mirth flowed the serious stream of a desire to be of real service to those about.

Thus passes from our midst a kind and loving husband, a devoted father, a true friend, an obliging neighbor, an upright citizen and one who loved God and his fellow men. He is survived, besides those already mentioned by fourteen grandchildren, two sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law, one aunt, Anna Marley, of Morgan county, and a large number of relatives and friends." (The Hancock County Democrat, Greenfield, Indiana, 31 August 1916, Thur. Page 3 - Obituary of Daniel Morgan Ware).

Daniel Morgan Ware married Rachel Ann Bussell, daughter of Martin Presley and Sarah (McQuerry) Bussell, 17 Jan 1873, Brown Township, Hancock County, Indiana. Daniel and Rachel were the parents of eight (8) children, two (2) died in infancy (1900 and 1910 census, Rachel says she is the mother of 8, 6 living):

Research Notes

In some documents the surname Ware has been spelled Wear and Weare. It is believed by older family members that WEARE is the original spelling of the surname.

I do not know who wrote Daniel Morgan Ware's obituary however by my research I believe some of it is not correct. Anna Reeves Ware, her second husband, William J. Hutcheson, Daniel, and his half-sister, Sena are on the 1850 census for Clark County, Illinois and the 1860 census for Shelby County, Illinois. Anna, Daniel and Sena are on the 1870 census for Hancock County, Indiana, living on Anna's father's farm, Daniel Reeves.

The obituary says Daniel's half-sister, Lena, census records, her headstone and a poem she wrote give her name as Sena. The story I saw was in my Grandfather's Bible, hand written and signed "Written by Sena Hutcheson, her paper 1862".
