Know all men by these presents that we Avery Reeves and William C. Handly of the County of Franklin and State of Tennessee for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred and fifty dollars to us in hand paid by Dudley Johnson of the same County and State have this day bargained sold and delivered unto the said Dudley Johnson one negro man named Joseph of dark complexion about thirty one years of age which negro we warrant to be sound & healthy and a Slave for life we also warrant and defend the title of said negro to said Johnson and his heirs forever free from the claims of all persons whatsoever. In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands Seals this 9th day of February AD 1833.
