Happy Fourteenth Birthday to TRP

                  by Beverly

Fourteen years ago, a group of Reeves’ researchers who had been sharing findings and other Reeves data online at the Rootsweb Reeves Mailing List made the decision to create this database. At the time, we were so excited about the prospect of this undertaking, I don’t think any of us considered the ramifications of the date The Reeves Project began – April 1st better known as April Fool’s Day.

Nonetheless, we continue to celebrate TRP’s birthday and mark its success as a factual source of Reeves family history and its various lineages detailed here thanks to Y-DNA testing and the serious research of our members. For all who have joined us over these years, I hope you too feel the pride we have experienced at the creation of such a record of our ancestors.

Wiki Stats - End March 2024

The total number of pages in the Wiki (as at 1 April 2024) now stands at 14176 (previously 14093, 13949, 13830), an increase of 83 pages during this month.   Of the total, 2862 pages (was 2853, 2822, 2807) begin with a number and are most probably a date related gleaning.   We currently have 6316 wiki pages categorised as "People", of which 5789 begin with the letter "R".

Community members should log in to see more.

The chart below shows our growth over the past fourteen years. In the twelve months since TRP's last birthday, we've collectively added 1145 pages of information relating to our R*v*(s) ancestors and their families.

The Reeves Project has also welcomed 34 new members over the same period of time. The more active we all are here at TRP, the more likely it is that we'll attract more cousins to come forward and help grow our collective knowledge and break down some of those brick walls we all have in our R*v*(s) family trees.

TRP Users

During March we have received four new enquiries about membership of TRP. We ended the month with 563 user accounts registered in TRP, an increase of three over the month.   We had two users successfully activated their account during the past month and we welcome to TRP's community Glenn and Anthea. We are grateful to Anthea who has already created an AboutMe page by following the guidance in First Steps - Part 2.

If you are having issues activating your account or have simply lost interest, please do let us know. Please contact New User Admin by sending an email to TRP123 (at) TheReevesProject (dot) org if you're stuck and need help or have subsequently decided you don't want to join our community. If you are not yet a member and would like to contribute to our community, please see our About Us page to find out a little more about TRP and then please complete our Join Us form to start the membership enrolment process.

Whether you joined TRP recently or a while ago, if you have yet to do so, please set a meaningful name for yourself as described in First Steps - Part 1. It isn't difficult and only takes a couple of minutes to do. If it helps, think of it as a (small) name label badge; so your first name plus the surname by which you are presently known (or at least the surname initial) would generally be a good choice. You'll find links to the remainder of the our six part First Steps as part of the FAQ - First Steps. Those same First Steps are also a great refresher for anybody returning to The Reeves Project after a period away

Teenage Tantrums

As noted above, TRP has been a teenager for a year now and it’s pleasing to be able to report that we’ve not seen it throw many tantrums. With a couple of minor exceptions, recently the software underpinning our wiki has been well behaved. And, of course, we hope that will continue to be the case….. (and we hate tempting fate with posts such as this.)

Should the worst happen, we can’t use TRP to keep you, our community members, informed. Which is why we have a secondary website hosted at Google. If you’ve not already read the FAQ page “TRP - Is it Down?” and added a book mark for https://sites.google.com/site/thereevesproject123 to your browser, we’d encourage you to do so now, while we don’t have any issues. And, fingers crossed, we won’t have any in the coming weeks and months.

Reeves DNA Project Update

We had five new members joining the Reeves DNA Project at FtDNA during the first quarter of 2024 and the total current membership is now 453 (as of 30 March 2024).

During January we were joined by "BR". February was much busier and we welcomed Ryan, Lyle and Donnie. Things quietened down again in March with just Kimberly on behalf of Matthew joining the project (so far as of 26 March).

Through the past quarter three of our five new members had Y-DNA test results to share with the Project. We also received the results for a member who joined us last quarter and there is one additional set of results for a new member currently being processed by FtDNA
Kit   700095 for LR added to DNA Group 16
Kit   831629 for KR added to DNA Group 10
Kit  1007201 for BR presently ungrouped
Kit  1008000 for Donnie added to DNA Group 09
We are grateful to Donnie and Kimberly (on behalf of Matthew) who have both kindly completed our DNA Donor Permission e-mail.   We would encourage all new Y-DNA donors or their representatives to make contact and allow us to identify them within TRP.

During the past quarter we've seen three notifications of new Big-Y results.   Three of the project's new members have taken a Family Finder (autosomal, at-DNA) test. There have been no new results from a new Family Finder Donor and one from a new mt-DNA donor during the past quarter.

If you missed last quarter's summary the DNA Project Update for 4q2023 is available here.
