Gloucester, Gloucestershire
Location
The City of Gloucester lies on the River Severn and is approximately 32 miles north east of Bristol and 115 miles west of London. A History of the County of Gloucester: Volume 4: The City of Gloucester (published 1988) notes that in mid 17th centry Gloucester had 11 churches with parochial function. In 1648 the city corporation obtained an ordinance for a re-organisation of the city's parishes. Four parishes were created, served from the churches of St. John the Baptist, St. Mary de Crypt, St. Michael, and St. Nicholas.
