Levi Reeves was born on 16 Nov 1828 in Meigs, Ohio. He appears in the 1850 Federal Census, still living with his parents and (numerous) siblings, in Scipio, Meigs, Ohio, with an occupation of "Farmer". In the 1860 Federal Census, he is living with his wife (and 1st cousin once removed), Clarinda Douglas Reeves, in Union, Warren, Iowa. They have three children living at the time - Franklin Fisher, Augustus W., and Austin (N. or W.?) Reeves. By 1870, they have eight children living with them, still in Union, Warren, Iowa. Finally, in 1880, the couple are living in the same place, with nine children living with them.

Levi Reeves died on 13 May 1890 during an accident on his farm. According to a notice of his death in the Sioux City Journal on 24 May 1890, "Levi Reeves, a well-to-do farmer living near Sandyville, Warren county, met death in a peculiar manner last Tuesday. He was milking, when another cow rushed up and attacked the one he was taking the milk from. A fight ensued, and in the scramble Mr. Reeves was trampled to death."
