Narrative
From Reliques of the Rives:Dr. Charles Ryves, born about 1564, entered Winchester College, to which his brothers, George and Thomas were sent, and, like them also, was graduated from New College, Oxford. He was elected to Winchester at the age of 12 as "of Blandford" and was admitted two years later in 1578 (Kirby). He is described as "of Dorset, armiger" by Foster who notes further his matriculation at New College, Oxford, "2 July 1585, aged 21 ; scholar, 1584; B. A., 14 June 1588; M. A., 5 June 1592; B. D., 6 July 1599; D. D., 15 Feb. 1601/2 (son of John of Damory Court, Dorset); rector of Staunton St. John, Oxford, 1606; died 1622." Kirby records also that he was Vicar of Hornchurch and Chaplain to King James I. Further testimonies include the mention of him in the will of his father (1587) by whom he was left £100. Hutchins records his death without issue in 1622.
