Transcript

Memorandu, that Wllm Reeve, of Rumford, within the parish of Hornchurch in the County of Essex mealman, deceased, being sicke of the sickness whereof hee dyed, at his dwelling house on Rumford aforesayd, about two of the clocke in the afternoone the six and twentieth day of Julu in the second yeare of the Raigne of our Sovraigne Lord king James the second. Annoqs Dm 1686: Mary Markham of Rumford aforesayd widow, about eight of the clocke in the aforenoone of the same day goeing to visitt him, (amongst other things) asking of him if hee was willing tody, hee replyed yes, with all his heart, and then after asking him, if hee had made his will, or sett his house in order, and who should have his estate, hee replyed, his wife who had helped to gett it (or to that effect) then shee told him that hee had brothers, and it would be convenient, that hee should lett them know that they had a brother, then hee replyed, that hee would and did give to his brother Jeremiah Reeve, and to his brother Thomas Reeve, to each of them ten pounds, but forthwith sayd, that his brother Thomas Reeve (because hee was poore) should have twenty pounds if his wife was willing, and soe pleased, whereupon shee being called upp and made accquainted with the prmisses, shee desired that it should be as hee pleased, and had declared, and hee give the rest of his estate to his wife. And in these words (or words to this effect) hee the sayd Willm Reeve, being of sound & pfect memory declared and published his last will, and testament nuncupative, in the pnce, and heareing of Frances Bishopp of Rumford aforesayd, widow, the sayd Mary Markham, and Miriam Smyth, the wife of Willm Smyth of Rumford aforesd shoemaker, three Credible witnesses whose hands, or markes are here unto sett, this xxviith day of July abovesayde.
