Narrative

Mary's father died when she was an infant, and her mother, Clementine Reeves, left her to be raised by the family of her deceased father. Mary visited her mother occasionally but always lived with her Carroll grandmother and various Carroll aunts and uncles as she grew up.
Mary married Thomas Jefferson Andrews, who was widely known as "Jeff" Andrews, on 7 October, 1890, in Fayette County, Illinois.

Son Malvo died during a tragic incident at 18 years old when his horse reared and fell on him, the saddle horn causing massive internal injuries from which he quickly succumbed. Mary suffered a breakdown of many years after the tragic accident. Consequently daughter Vivian took on a substantial part in raising daughter Winona who was 20 years younger.
Mary Viola Carroll Andrews died 18 April, 1936, on the family farm about a mile south of Mulberry Grove in Bond County, Illinois. She is buried in McInturff Cemetery in Fayette County, Illinois.

Research Notes

There is a substantial photographic record of this family in the hands of descendants. Mary's daughter Winona was an avid photography enthusiast from a young age.
