Anson is listed on the 1840 census in Islip, Suffolk County, New York. It appears he probably had his mother Elizabeth in the household as there are two women, one age 15-20, the other age 50-60 with him.

In 1850, he was in Southold, age 33, with Elizabeth (60), apparently his mother, Elizabeth (27), presumably his sister, and a Thomas (15), perhaps a son.
