Benjamin Reeves served as a private in Co. F, 55th Regiment of Georgia Infantry, CSA, during the Civil War. He was taken a prisoner of war at Cumberland Gap on 9 Sep 1863 and taken to a military prison at Louisville, Kentucky then on to Camp Douglas, Illinois on 24 Sep 1863. He was discharged on 15 June 1865.

His CSA records state that he was 5 ft. 6 in. tall with brown hair and hazel eyes.
