Harvey enlisted as a private in Co. A, 10th Reg. Alabama Infantry on 4 Jun 1861 in Asheville, Alabama. His record states that he was wounded in action at Richmond, Virginia on 30 Jun 1862. He was sent home on 28 Apr 1864 to his home in St. Clair Co., Alabama on account of mental derangement.
