Narrative

Very little is known of the life of John Durdan Reeves' brother Jesse. He is recorded in the 1790 census of Cumberland County, North Carolina along with John Durdan and by 1800, both brothers are listed in the census of Surry County, North Carolina.

The 1778 Halifax County will of Micajah Rawls left legacies to his half brothers John and Jesse Reves. It appears from this will that their father had married a Rawls' widow who was the mother of John and Jesse Reeves, but currently no records have been found in Halifax County that identify either their father or mother.

Research Notes

The marriage of 15 Apr 1807 in Surry County, North Carolina to Peggy Hadley has undoubtably a second marriage but no prior marriage has yet been found been found to be misinformation. Further research has found that Peggy Hadley married a "Jesse Reece", not Reeves. This information leaves the will of Micajah Rawls as the only documentation of Jesse Reeves, brother of John Durdan Reeves'.

Peggy Hadley is also seen listed as a first wife of Jesse Franklin Reeves, son of John Durdan, but since Jesse Franklin was born in 1810 and the marriage was recorded in 1807 that could not be correct which is also incorrect.

The individual listed in the Surry County census of 1800 and 1810 has proven to be Jesse Reavis, not Reeves.
