Narrative

According to census returns John was born around 1801 in either Droxford or the adjacent village of Swanmore.

By the time of the 1851 census John has married a Charlotte mnu (but most probably Lock, in which case married 1844).

Known children of John & Charlotte are ....
  1. Henry Reeves, bapt February 1845
  2. James John Reeves, bapt April 1847
  3. Thomas Reeves, bapt 29 November 1849
  4. Sarah Jane Reeves, bapt January 1851
  5. Ellen Reeves, bapt April 1855.
Their first son Henry was baptised at Wherwell in Hampshire, his mother's place of origin.
The remaining four children were baptised at the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Fareham.
FamilySearch records Ellen's baptism under the surname Reeve (sic), but FreeBMD notes the birth registration as Ellen Reeves.
FamilySearch records two baptisms for son Thomas, the first on 29 November 1849 and the second on 23 December in the same year. It is possible the first record was of a private baptism and the second when he was received in church. There is also a burial records for a Thomas Reeves in February 1850 and their son does not appear on the 1851 census.

John has not, as yet, been identified in the 1841 census.

At the time of the 1851 census, John with his wife Charlotte and their three children, Henry(6), James (4) and Sarah (3 months) are found at Porter Lane Farm in North Fareham, where John is employed as an Agricultural Labourer.

John & Charlotte have been identified on the 1861 & 1871 census returns.

On the 1891 census, wife Charlotte appears as a widow (she has not, as yet, been identified on the 1881 census). FreeBMD has a strongly matching D. Reg. in Fareham Reg. Dist. during the December quarter 1878 for a John Reeves aged 79.

Further research on this family group is needed. Do you have a copy of their marriage certificate?
