Narrative

Child of Unknown Reeves and Serilda MNU:
  1. Columbus D. Reeves, b. c. 1834.

This man's name is unknown. He predeceased his father Joshua Reeves, and his son Columbus Reeves was identified as Joshua's heir in Joshua's estate settlement. Columbus apepars in the 1850 census with his mother and stepfather, William Edge and wife Serilda. William Edge and Serilda Reeves had married in Chambers Co., AL, in 1837. Further confirmation that Serilda was the daughter-in-law of Joshua and Jemima Reeves is found in the fact that she is buried in the Pike Family Cemetery, where Joshua's daughter Bethenia Reeves Pike and her family are buried.

William and Sarilda Edge were enumerated in District 19, Chambers Co., AL, in 1850, HH 39/39. He was 48, AL, a farmer with property valued at $200. Sarilda was 37, SC. Only one child — C. D. Reeves, 16, Farmer, GA — was shown. Sarilda was shown as Syrilda Edge, 46, GA, School Teacher, $200/$350, in 1860. She was living in HH 294, Rock Mills. As Sarilda Edge, she was enumerated in Randolph Co., AL, in 1870 with Georgi Reeves, who may have been her granddaughter. Sarilda Edge was enumerated alone in Beat 11, HH 203/214, in 1880. She was shown as an Alabama native with both parents born in SC. Nearby, in HH 196/207, were William and Bethenia Reeves Pike.

Research Notes

Joshua Reeves's unknown son may have been living with Joshua and Jemima in 1830. He may have married, had son Columbus, and died between the 1830 census and the remarriage of Serilda Reeves in 1837.

The 1860 Randolph Co., AL, Census showed a two-year-old girl named Georgia A. Reaves living in Rock Mills, HH 457. She was born in Alabama and was living with the family of Joel and Elizabeth Toller, age 46 and 39, natives of GA. It would appear that Georgia may have been their granddaughter.

The 1870 Randolph Co., AL, Census showed Serilda Edge living in HH 862/862, Township 21, Wedowee P.O., Randolph Co., AL. She was 57, a farmer with $160 worth of property, and a SC native. Only one other person appeared in her household: Georgie Reeves, 13, female, At Home, AL. Although enumerated in a different district, this was the same general region of the county in which Georgia Reaves and the Towlers had been living in 1860.

The 1880 Randolph Co., AL, Census, Beat 11, HH 200/211, showed William D. Folsom, age 23, AL. Folsom's wife was Georgean, age 21, Keeping House, AL. One child, Columbus F. Folsom, 21/30, AL, was shown. Sarilda Edge was in HH 203/214. Georgean Folsom may have been Georgia A. Reeves.

The connection of Georgia Reeves and Serilda Edge is unclear. One possible explanation might be that Georgia was a granddaughter of both Serilda Reeves Edge and Joel and Elizabeth Towler.
