The 1841 census shows William and Harriet living with Susan Reeves (age 55, a School Mistress) at Redlinch, in the parish of Downton.

At the time of the 1851 census, on 30 March, William and Harriet are to be found in Bullar Street, in the St Mary area of Southampton. His age is given as 38 and his birth place was Downton, Wiltshire. The household comprises his wife Harriet with their four eldest surviving children; Herbert, Georgina, Clarissa and Egbert. Additionally there is a David Reeves who is described as a Visitor. There is a strong possibility this is William's elder brother David Reeves, in which case David has been enumerated twice on the 1851 census.

On the 1861 census William, Harriett, Hubert, Georgina, Clara and Wallis are living on Upper Lyon Street, Southampton. Charlotte Bowring, described as William's widowed sister in law, is living with the family.

By the time of the 1871 census, only daughters Georgina and Clara are living with their parents WIlliam & Harriett, again on Lyon Street.

On the 1881 census, William and Harriett are still living on Lyon Street. All of their children have left home but a grandson, 9 year old Harry Gregory is living with them.

At the time of the 1891 census, William and his wife Harriett are still living on Lyon Street and are providing a home to their daughter, the widowed Georgina Gregory and grandson Henry Gergory, now aged 19.

By the time of the 1901 census William is now a widower and is still living on Lyon Street. Married daughter Clara Olding and daughter Georgina Martin plus son-in-law william Martin complete the household.

William's death is registered in 1q 1910 in the Southampton Registration District, age 97.
