Introduction

The following is a statement made in the records from the 9 Oct 1662 meeting of the General Assembly of Connecticut held at Hartford.

Transcript

Severall of the inhabitants at Southold accepted to be made free of this Colony, vnles any thing appeare to interrupt the same; Mr. Wels, Thomas Terrey, Philemon Dickerson, Goodm Purrier, Goodm Windes, Barnabas Horton, Josph Horton, Lt Glouer, Thomas Moor Senr, Goodm Conclin, Goodm Cory, Goodm Reeues, Goodm Mapes, John Conclin Junr, Jo: Paine, Richrd Browne, Joseph Yongs Senr, Joseph Yongs Junr, Jer: Vayle, Jo: Curwin, Richard Terrey, Mr. Elton, Tho: Brush, John Bud, Mr. Tucker.


Commentary

Thomas Reeves (appearing as Reeues in the transcription) mentioned here is agreed to have been Thomas Reeve, who was the only one by that name in Southold during that time period. This record explicitly states he was of Southold. A number of the other men mentioned here are of families which the Reeves of Southold appear in records with frequently.
