Transcript
This Indenture made the Thirteenth day of May in the year of our Lord Christ, One Thousand Seven Hundred, Twenty and three. Between William Rives of the County of Prince George, Planter of the one part, and Thomas Jones of the City of Williamsburgh Gent, of the other part Witnesseth that the said William Rives for and in consideration of the sum of Five Shillings sterling to him in hand paid by the said Thomas Jones, the receipt whereof he the said William Rives doth hereby acknowledge, and thereof doth acquit and discharge the said Thomas Jones, his heirs, executors and admrs by these presents, Hath bargained and sold, and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto the said Thomas Jones One certain tract or parcell of land containing Two Hundred and Six acres, lying and being on the south side of Nottoway River in the said County of Prince George and bounded as followeth (to wit) Beginning at a Live Oake standing upon the bank of the said River, near below the Fort Road, thence West Seventeen degrees south, One Hundred and Eighty nine poles, to a Red Oak, thence North Seventeen degrees West, twenty Eight poles to a Hornbeam shrub, upon the Bank of the said River, thence down the River as it meanders to the beginning; which said Two Hundred & Six acres of land was granted unto the said William Rives by Pattent bearing Date the fifteenth day of July, in the year of Our Lord Christ, One Thousand, Seven hundred and seventean, and the reversion and Reversions, Remainder and Remainders, together with the Rents and Profits of the Premises, and every part and parcell thereof. To have and to hold the said Two hundred and six acres of land and all and singular other the premises, with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Thomas Jones, his executors, administrators and assigns, from the day of the date hereof, for and during the term of one whole year from thence next ensueing and fully to be compleat and ended. Yeilding therefore the rent of one Grain of Indian Corn, on the last day of the said Term only if the same be lawfully Demanded; To the Intent that by Virtue of these presents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possession, the said Thomas Jones may be in the actuall possession of the premises and be enabled to accept a Grant and Release of the Reversion and Inheritance thereof to him ad his heirs, for ever. The above written Deed of Lease of Land Endented and Seald was in open court acknowledged by William Rives the subscribee thereto to be his act and Deed to Thomas Jones Gent therein named, and by Order of the Court, the same is truly recorded.
