Transcript

This Indenture made this sixteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty one and in the first year of our Sovereign Lord George the third &c Between George Rieves of Meherrin Parrish in the County of Brunswick of the one part and Drury Cook of the said County and Parrish aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said George Rieves for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds Good and Lawfull money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Drury Cook the Receipt whereof the said George Rieves doth hereby acknowledge he the said George Rieves hath Granted Bargained & Sold aliened and confirmed and by these presents Doth Grant Bargain and Sell alien and Confirm unto the said Drury Cook his Heirs and assigns forever all that mesuage tract and parcel of land I now live on Containing three hundred and ten acres also one certain piece more adjoining the above said Tract I live on containing by estimation one hundred and ninety acres more or less and Bounded as followeth to wit, the tract I now live on being Granted to Henry Cook by patent for three hundred and ten acres bearing date the thirty first Day of October 1726 Begining at Henry Cooks line at a poplar in a branch thence along Cooks line north twenty Degrees East one hundred and seventy two poles to a Red Oak then north seventy three Degrees East eighty five to a Red Oak then north fourteen Degrees west ninety nine poles to a pine then north forty two degrees west seventy two poles to a pidgeon oak thence south eighty three degrees west one hundred and thirty eight pole to a pine in a slash thence south thirty one degrees west one hundred and sixty poles to a pine in the aforesaid branch then down the said branch to the Begining the other parcel of land being part of a tract of land granted to the said Henry Cook by patent for 1760 acres bearing date the twentyeth day of August 1748. Begining one the rooty branch and up the said branch to John Cooks corner maple then north forty seven degrees east one hundred pole to a pine then north seventy two degrees east eighty pole to George Wyches corner pine thence along his line north sixty five degrees one hundred and two poles to his corner maple then north forty three degrees east one hundred forty eight pole to his corner gum in the Great Swamp then down the great swamp to the said Henry Cooks old line. To have & to hold the said messuage tract and parcel of land and all and singular the premises above mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances unto the said Drury Cook his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said Drury Cook his heirs and assigns forever and the said George Rieves for himself and his heirs the said messuage tract and parcel of land and premises and every part and parcil thereof against him & his heirs and against all and every other person & persons whatsoever to the said Drury Cook his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents as witness my hand and seal this day and year hereabove written in this Deed.

This Indenture was acknowledged by George Rieves party thereto and ordered to be Recorded and Sarah the wife of the said George personally appeared in Court being first privily examined as the law directs freely and voluntarily relinquished her Right of Dower in the lands within mentioned
