This Indenture made the 28th day of December 1763, Between Wm. Reeves of the cty of Johnston & province of No. Carolina of the one part and Charles Copland (sic) of the county Of Granville & province aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Wm. Reeves for and in consideration of the sum of 70 pounds Virginia money to him in hand paid by the said Copland, hath given granted &c and by these presents doth give &c unto the said Charles Copland his heirs &c forever, all that plantation, tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the county of Johnston and Province aforesaid being the Plantation whereon the Widow Matthews now lives and is bounded as follows, Beginning at William Halls’ corner red oak on the No. side of Neuse River, thence along Halls land South to a creek thence from said creek as it meanders to the mouth of a small branch on the So. Side of the same to a white oak & two dog woods thence up said branch to Wallets line thence down the said line to a corner pine thence No. 300 po. To a wh. oak thence E. 340 poles to an oak the first station containing in all by estimation 300 acres, more or less. To have and to hold the said land with all houses, orchards, gardens & all appurtenances thereunto belonging to the only proper use & behoof of the said Charles Copland his heirs & assigns forever, and the said Wm. Reeves doth further covenant & agree for himself his heirs &c, for and with the said Charles Copland his heirs &c forever, that at the time of sale & delivery hereof he is the true & right owner of the above bargained premises, and hath in himself good right & lawful authority to sell the same as aforesaid & the said Wm. Reeves doth hereby oblige himself his heirs &c. to warrant & defend the aforesaid premises from the lawful claims of any person or persons whatsoever.
