Transcript

This Indenture made the twenty six Day of March in the year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King George the third in the year of our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred and seventy two Between Fredrick Reeves of the parrish of Cambden in the County of Pittsylvania of the one part and Samuel Canterbury of the Parrish County aforesaid planter of the other part Witnesseth that the said Frederick Reaves for and in consideration of the sum of Thirty five pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Samuel Canterbury at or before the ensealing & Delivery of these presents the Receipts whereof the said Frederick Reeves doth hereby acknowlegde hereof and of and from every part and parcel thereof doth hereby acquit and discharge the said Samuel Canterbury his heirs executors Admrs by these presents he the said Frederick Reaves hath granted bargained and sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed all that tract piece or parcel of land ying and being in the County of Pittsylvania on Mountain Creek a branch of Pigg River and Bounded as followeth begining at a chesnut and a white oak on the order line on the east side of the said Creek thence down the said Creek partly a north course to a corner Spanish oak thence partly north west to a corner hickory and Dogwood on a branch of the said Creek thence Down the said branch to the Creek Crossing the Creek Runing up a branch partly south west to a corner white oak and Dogwood on David Kirbys line thence south along his line to the order line cornering on a black oak on the order line thence down the order line to the Beginning containing one hundred acres be the same more or less with all houses outhouses edifices buildings yards gardens fences orchards trees woods underwoods ways waters watercourses profits commodities advantages hereditaments whatsoever to the said track piece or parcel of land and premises or in any wise appurtaining and also reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents and issues and profits of the said premises above mentione dand every part and parel thereof and all the estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever in Equity or law of them the said Fredrick Reaves of in and to the said only as or any part thereof. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and premises above mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with all the appurtenances unto the said Samuel Canterbury his heirs and assigns forever and the said Fredrick Reaves for himself his heirs and assigns doth covenant and agree to and with the said Saml Canterbury his heirs and assigns by these presents that he the said Fredrick Reaves the said track piece of land above mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances unto the said Samuel Canterbury his heirs and assigns against him the said Fredrick Reeves his heirs and assigns and all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof I the said Fredrick Reeves hath hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and year first above mentioned

Memorandum That on the day and year first within mentioned full peacable and quiet possession and livery of seizen of the land and premises within mentioned was made and delivered by the within named Fredrick Reaves unto the within named Samuel Canterbury to hold to him his heirs and assigns forever according to the purpost true intent and meaning of the within written Indenture

This Indenture together with the Memorandum of livery & seizen herein indorsed was ackd by the above named Fredk Rives to be his act and Deed and Marymagdalene wife of the said Rives being privily examd as the law directs Relinqs the right of dower in and to the within granted land and premises and the same was ordered to be recorded
