This Indenture made this 16th day of February in the fifteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of great Britain France & Ireland King defender of the Faith &c and in the year of our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred & seventy five Between Thomas Whitfield of the Parish of Albemarle & County of Sussex & Winifred his wife of the one part and William Rieves Junior of the Parish & County aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Thomas Whitfield & Winifred his wife for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand well & truly paid by the said William Rieves at & before the ensealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he the said Thomas Whitfield doth hereby acknowledge, they the said Thomas Whitfield & Winifred his wife, hath & doth by these presents grant bargain sell alien & confirm unto the said William Rieves & to his heirs & assigns forever, all that part of the tract of land which the said Thomas Whitfield now stands seized & possessed & lying & being in the aforesaid County of Sussex which lies on the south side of the road that leads from the ordinary of the said William Rieves to or by Nottoway Church it being part of a tract or parcel of land which was formerly the property of a certain John Edwards, and was by the said John Edwards & Sarah his wife conveyed to Matthew Whitfield Father of the said Thomas Whitfield by Deed bearing date the eighteenth day of March in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & sixty two, and property of which land hath since become vested in the said Thomas Whitfield by the last Will & Testament of the above mentioned Matthew Whitfield now remaining of Record in the Court of the said County of Sussex reference thereunto being had may more fully appear to have & to hold the said piece of land & premises whit the appurtenances unto the said William Rieves his heirs & assigns to the only proper use & behoof of him the said William Rieves his heirs & assigns forever. And the said Thomas Whitfield for himself his heirs executors & administrators doth covenant promise grant & agree to & with the said William Rieves his heirs & assigns that he the said Thomas Whitfield his heirs executors & admrs the said piece of land & premises with the appurtenances unto the said William Rieves his heirs & assigns shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents.In witness whereof the said Thomas Whitfield & Winifred his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day & year first within written.

This Indenture was acknowledged by the thereto subscribed Thomas Whitfield & Winifred his wife to be their act & Deed and by the Court ordered to be recorded. Previous to which the said Winifred was privily & part from her said husband examined and did freely & voluntarily relinquish her right of Dower of in & to the lands conveyed by the said Indenture.
