Transcript

The Indenture made this Eighth day of December in ye year of our Lord Christ, one thousand seven hundred & eighty three Between Mark Harwell & Gardner Harwell of the County of Sussex of the one part and Nathaniel Rives of Greensville County of the other part Witnesseth that the said Mark Harwell & Gardner Harwell for and in consideration of the just quantity of Forty Thousand & fifty pounds of nett Tobacco to them in hand paid by the said Nathaniel Rives, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, they the said Mark Harwell & Gardner Harwell have Granted Bargained & sold unto the said Nathaniel Rives and to his heirs and assigns forever all that certain tract or parcel of land situate lying & being on the south side Harry's swamp in the aforesaid county of Sussex & containing by estimation four hundred and an half acres be the same more or less and is bounded by the lines of Sterling Harwell, Lawrence Gibbons, William Parham's Estate, Nathaniel Wikerson & the Main Run of the aforesaid Harry's Swamp it being meant to include all the lands held by the said Mark Harwell & Gardner Harwell on the said Harry's Swamp below the lines of Sterling Harwell together with a water Grist Mill & its appurtenances on the aforesaid swamp as also one acre of land adjoining the said Mill on the North side thereof which was formerly granted to the aforesaid Mark Harwell by the worshipfull Court of Sussex for erecting a water Grist Mill on Too have and to hold the aforesaid tract or parcel of Land & premises with the appurtenances to each & every one belonging to him the said Nathaniel Rives his Heirs assigns To the only proper use & behoof of him the said Nathaniel Rives his heirs & assigns forever and they the said Mark Harwell & Gardner Harwell the said land & premises aforesaid with the appurtenances to each & every one belonging unto him the said Nathaniel Rives his heirs and assigns against them the said Mark Harwell & Gardner Harwell & their heirs and against all and every other person and persons whatsoever shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof they the said Mark Harwell & Gardner Harwell have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the day & year first within written,

Commentary

This could be Nathaniel Rives who later moved to South Carolina or Nathaniel Rives who later went to Henry County.
