THIS INDENTURE Made this fourth day of May one thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty four Between Burges Reaves (sic Reeves) of the County of Granville & in the state of North Carolina of the one part & Benjamin Hester of the sd. County of the other part Witnesseth that the sd. Burges Reaves for & in consideration of the sum of thirty pounds to him in hand paid at or before the Sealing & delivery hereof the Rect whereof is hereby acknowledged & Said Burges Reaves to the sd Benjamin Hester doth hereby Acquit & discharge hath granted bargained & sold released & confirmed unto the sd Benjamin Hester his heirs & assigns forever a certain piece or parcel of land lying on the waters of poplar Creek, Beginning at a poplar on the west side of poplar Creek running west Elwicks (sic?) old line thence North with line to Spanish Oak then east with his line to the Creek then down the sd. Creek to the first Station containing One Hundred acres of land be the same more or less with all houses & all other appertances (sic) thereto belonging or anywise appertaining & all reversion & reversions, rents issues & profits there and every part & parcel thereof with all their appertainces (sic) thereunto belonging To have and to hold the sd tract of land & other their premises and appertain (sic) to the same belonging to the said Benjamin Hester his heirs & assigns forever he the sd Burges Reaves his heirs & assigns and he the sd Burges Reaves for himself his heirs Exrs Adminrs & assigns doth covenant & agree to & with the sd. Benjamin Hester his heirs & assigns that the above granted land is free & clear of all Incumbrances (sic) whatsoever and that the sd BBurges Reaves hath full power to sell & dispose of the same & the sd. Reaves his heirs & assigns shall & will ever warrant and defend the same to the sd Benjamin Hester his heirs & assigns forever and against the lawfull claim of any person or persons whatsoever In Witness whereof the sd. Burges Reeves ackd this Deed to be his Act & Deed which was ordered to be registered then Frances wife of the sd. Burges was privately examined by Zacharias Higgs esqr who reported that she freely relinguishes her right of Dower in the land by this Deed conveyed.
