Know all men by these Presents that I Thomas Gray of the County of Duplin for and in consideration of the Sum of One Hundred Pounds Specie to me in hand paid by William Reaves have Bargained and Sold unto the sd William Reaves One Negro girl slave named Alid about ten years of age which said Negro girl I hereby warrant and Defend unto the said William Reaves his heirs and assigns forever In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this 14th Jany 1786

Note: The purchaser may have been William Reaves Sr. as the transaction took place in Duplin County in 1786, four years before the death of William Sr. The sale, however, was recorded in Wayne County in 1793 after the death of William Sr. leading to the conclusion that this was William Reaves, Jr..
