State of South Carolina
Know all men by these presents that I William Reives of the County of Chester and State aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred Dollars to me in hand paid by Alexander Carter of the County and State aforesaid have granted bargained sold & Released and by these presents do grant bargain sell and Release unto the said Alexdr Carter all that plantation or tract of land containing two hundred thirty nine acres, situate in the County aforesaid on the East side of Fishing Creek, being two Grants the one to Catherine Steel for two hundred acres bearing Date the 28th Day of Novr 1771 Bounded by a Line running N W and Sd Catherine Steels Lands N E on John McFaddens Land S W & N W on John Leonards and vacant land when surveyed the other granted to me the sd Wm Reaves for thirty nine acres the 7th day of April AD 1794. Beginning on Fishing Creek & Bounded by lines running N E on John Leonards land S E & N E on the sd two hundred acre tract SE on John Leonard's Land & SW on Moses McCowns Land & Thence on the Creek to the beginning. Together with all and singular the rights members hereditaments & appurtenances to the sd premises belonging or in any wise incident or appurtaining to have and to hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the sd Carter his heirs and assigns forever and I do hereby bind myself my heirs Executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the sd premises unto the sd Alexdr Carter his heirs and assigns against myself & my heirs & against every person whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof.
Witness my hand and seal this 24 Day of Sept in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety nine and in the twenty fourth year of the Independence of the United States of America

Chester District} Benjamin Booth appeared and made oath that he saw Willm Reives sign acknowledge his seal & deliver the within deed of conveyance to Alexander Carter for the uses and purposes therein contained and also that he saw Martha Giles & Mary Carter sign the same as subscribing witnesses with himself Sworn to and subscribed the 18th day of Jan AD 1800

I John NcCreary a Justice of the Quorum for the District of Chester do hereby certify to all whom it may concern that Mary Reives wife of the within named Wm Reives did this day appear before me & upon being privately & separately examined by me did declare that she does freely & voluntarily without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons whomsoever renounce release and forever relinquish unto the within named Alexdr Carter her heirs and assigns all her interest and Estate & also all her right and claim of dower of in or to all and singular the premises within mentioned & Released
