Transcript

In the name of god Amen I Obadiah Reeve of BrookHaven in the County of Suffolk & Stait of New York yeoman considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being sick and much indisposed in body but of a sound disposing mind and memory blessed be god almity for the same do now make & publish this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I recommend my soul into the hands of god that gave it and as for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian life and decent manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the saim by the mighty power of god and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in manner and form following
imprimis it is my will and I order in the first place that all my just debts be paid
I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Elisabeth Reeve one bed and furnitur with all the linnen and lucking glass
Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter betsy Reeve my silver spoon grate and small and all the remainder of my estait I order to be sold at the discresion of my executors
Item I give and bequeath one third of my estait to my beloved wife Elisabeth Reeve and the other two thirds to my daughter betsy Reeves to be paid to her when she shall arrive at the age of eighteen years
Lastly I constitute make ordain and appoint James Port and my wife Elisebeth Reeve the soul executors of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty first day of February in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and one

Suffolk County } Be it remembered that on the sixth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three personally came and appeared before Nicoll Floyd Surrogate of said county William Hawkins of Brook Haven in the County aforesaid and being duly sworn on his oath declared that he saw Obadiah Reeve sign and seal an instrument in writing purporting to be the will of the said Obadiah Reeve bearing date the twenty first day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one the preceding whereof is a true copy and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament that at the time thereof he the said Obadiah Reeve was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the deponent and that his name subscribed to the said will is of his own proper hand writing which he subscribed as a witness to the same and that he saw Jeremiah Havens and Abigail Post subscribe their names as witnesses thereto at the same time in presence of the Testator
