Transcript

This Indenture made this 19th day of April One thousand Eight hundred and ten Between Frederick Rives of Franklin County and State of Virginia of the one part and Joseph Rives of the County State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Frederick Rives for the natural love and affection which I bear to my son Joseph Rives as well for the further consideration of one Dollar to me in hand paid by the said Joseph Rives the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, Have given, and granted, and by these presents doth give grant Bargain Sell deliver & confirm unto the said Joseph Rives and certain Tract or parcell of land whereon the said Frederick Rives now lives on Pig River containing by estimation one thousand acres (more or less) Beginning at the mouth of Glade Creek on the north side of Pig River thence up the said Creek to the mouth of the first Branch on the north side of said Creek thence up said Branch to the head, thence along Burwell Rives line to John S Burwells corner white oak thence north with John Burwells to the order line, thence East with said order line to a corner white oak, thence with said order line to Jacks Creek, thence down the Creek with its meanders to the River, thence up the River to the mouth of the first Branch on the South side of the River above Poiny Clefs, thence up said branch to the head, thence south to the old limestoone road thence up said road to a corner post oak on the south side of the road at the head of a hollow thence a straight line to the head of a branch that runs in on the south side of the River opposite Burwell Rives's plantation, thence down the said branch to the River, thence down the same to the Beginning - To have and to hold the said land and premises with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appurtaining to the said Joseph Rives his heirs & assigns for ever. Nevertheless the said Frederick Rives do reserve to his own proper use and interest the sole possession and profit of said land and premises with every part and parcell thereof during his natural life - and the said Frederick Rives doth hereby covenant and agree to and with the said Joseph Rives his heirs &c that the above granted land and premises unto him the said Joseph Rives his heirs &c for ever to be his own proper possession after the decease of my the said Frederick Rives. In testimony whereof the said Frederick Rives have hereunto sett his hand and seal the day & year first written

This Deed of Gift from Frederick Rives to Joseph Rives was proved by the oath of Benjamin Cook and Pleasant Dickinson two of the witnesses hereto. And at a court held for said County March 7th 1815 the said deed was further proved by the oath of Joel Shrewsbury the other witness hereto, and ordered to be recorded.
