Transcript

In the name of God Amen I Thomas Reeve of the town of Southold in the County of Suffolk in the State of New York calling to mind the mortallity of the body & knowing that it is ordained that I must die and to put my house in order for that (?) make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say
Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Parnel (?) household furniture two cows and all my provisions, I also give her in lieu (of?) her right of dower in my dwelling house, the use and improvement of my (?) room bed room with a right in the back room so long as she shall remain my widow and no longer
Item I give unto my son Leveret Reeve one hundred eighty dollars in addition to what I have heretofore given him
Item I give unto my Son Thomas Reeve fifty dollars in addition to the land given him
Item I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Ester Howell and Mary Wells twenty five dollars each
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Parnel Reeve a home in my dwelling house with a sufficiency of firewood for her consumption so long as she shall remain single or unmarried and no longer
Item I give bequeath and devise unto my son Luther Reeve all the rest and remainder of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever To have and to hold the same unto my said son Luther his heirs and assigns forever, upon (trust?) that he pay satisfy and discharge the above gifts and legacies and all my just debts and funeral charges and incidental expenses in settling my estate and not otherwise.
Lastly I hereby constitute and appoint my said son Luther Reeve sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills and testaments by me heretofore made.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty fifth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two.
Signed Sealed published and declared by the said testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.

Suffolk County Surrogates Office } Be it remembered that on the fifteenth day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty four personally appeared before Ebenezer W Case Surrogate of said County John Hubbard of Southold in the County aforesaid who being duly sworn on his oath declared that he saw Thomas Reeve sign and seal an instrument in writing purporting to be the will of the said Thomas Reeve bearing date the twenty fifth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two (the preceeding whereof is a true copy) and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament; that at the time thereof he the said Thomas Reeve was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and beleif of him the deponent; that his name subscribed as a witness to the said will is of his own proper hand writing and that he saw Barnabas B Horton and Thomas Reeve Jr subscribe their names as witnesses thereto at the same time with him in the presence of the testator. In testimony whereof I the said Surrogate have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal of Office the day and year aforesaid.
