Transcript

This Indenture made this 8th day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and Twenty Three between Joshua Ham of the County of Bedford and State of Tennessee of the one Part and Tobias Reaves of the County & State aforsd of the other Part - Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Four hundred Dollars to me in hand paid by the said Reaves the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath Given granted bargained sold alined conveyed & conferred unto the said Reaves his heirs & assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County aforesaid and on both sides of Duck River Beginning at a Black Walnut & white oak W N South East Corner Running west thirty & a half poles one link to an oak & two box Elders thence south crossing Duck River in all two hundred Nine & a half Poles to a Stake thence East thirty & one half poles on Link to a Stake thence North crossing Duck Rover in all Two hundred & Nine & one half poles to the Beginning containing forty acres by calculation To Have and to hold the aforesaid land and bargained premises unto him the said Tobias Reaves his heirs and assigns forever and to the said Joshua Ham for himself his heirs Executors and administrators & assigns For himself his heirs &Co do warrant & forever defend the aforesaid land and bargained premises unto the aforesaid Reaves and (?) from the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever claiming the same

           I James McKesuck Clerk of the court of Please and Quarter Sessions of the County aforesaid do hereby certify that the Execution of the within deed of conveyance from Joshua Ham to Tobias Reaves was proven in open court by the oaths of Edwd Wade & Robt C Thompson two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be so certified for Registration
           Given under my hand at office this 7th day of April 1823
